The Goa'uld are a species of parasitic symbiotes that take other creatures as hosts. Their preferred species to parasitize is humanity, and thousands of years ago, the Goa'uld known as Ra found a planet filled with humans. Ra took possession of one and spread his power, subjugating the people of Neolithic Earth.

For the next 10,000+ years, Ra and his fellow Goa'uld peopled the galaxy with humanity, which made it possible for them to spread their influence into a fully-formed galactic empire. The Goa'uld was organized under a group of powerful members who called themselves the System Lords.

The Goa'uld System Lords are ruthless conquerors who spread their power among humanity by establishing themselves as their gods. Throughout human history, the deities known as Ra, Apophis, Cronus, Ba'al, and man more were, in fact, Goa'ulds who commanded a great deal of power over the people who worshipped them.

Individually, a Goa'uld symbiote is a deadly and dangerous creature, capable of taking over a host body for eons, but collectively, they are some of the most powerful and deadly villains of the Milky Way Galaxy. The Goa'uld System Lords were finally defeated after millennia of dominance, thanks to an alliance of the Tok'ra, Tau'ri (humans of Earth), and rebel Jaffa.
