10 Doctor Who Moments Peter Capaldi Can't Be Darker Than

7. The Seventh Doctor's Treatment Of Ace

Pointing a gun at the bad guys may still be a dark moment for the Doctor but that's nothing compared to making your companion's life hell. Ace is a troubled young woman with a history of arson and a difficult relationship with her mother. Travelling around the universe with the wise old Doctor on an eye-opening journey of self-discovery should have been the perfect thing to put her on the right track in life. Instead of showing her kindness though, the Doctor makes Ace face all her greatest fears. A house that terrorised her as a girl, her irrational fear of clowns (which probably isn't helped when she meets evil robot ones) and even her mother. Blimey, that last one's worse than making her face the Daleks. You might think the Doctor is just being cruel to be kind and has her best interests at heart. However, in the penultimate episode of the classic series it is revealed that Ace has been an unwitting pawn of the evil entity Fenric, something the Doctor was not only aware of it, but it was the reason he took her own board in the first place. Although he might be a tad grumpy, the Twelfth Doctor will surely treat Clara better than his earlier self did Ace.
