8. The Eleventh Doctor Is Without Mercy

When considering the Eleventh Doctor, we think of bow ties and fezzes and puppy dog tails and things that good Time Lords are made of. However, let's not forget that Number Eleven was the oldest of the Doctors and so had the weight of all those many centuries behind him. Sometimes then, like any old man his patience would occasionally wear thin. One time this occurred was back in the ol' wild west, in a town - ironically - called Mercy which was being stormed by an alien cyborg. Sick of people needlessly dying for his pacifist nature, the Doctor goes against his normal rules and straight out points a gun at the offending alien. It takes the words of wisdom of his companion Amy to bring him back to reality. While we've seen the Doctor grab a gun before in moments of dire danger, this must be the only time he does so as a knee-jerk reaction, rather than use his trademark wits to save the day. Given the rarity of this, we don't expect to see Peter Capaldi swapping his sonic screwdriver for something with more a little more firepower...
