10 Doctor Who Actors Who Have Gained Recognition In The US

1. Karen Gillan

Karen Gillan starred in Doctor Who - and some would even say dominated it - between 2010 and 2012 and her career has been going from strength to strength since she left the TARDIS behind. She's particularly been making a name for herself across the (Amy) pond with roles in successful films, such as Oculus and Guardians of the Galaxy, already under her belt. Let's not forget the short-lived Selfie either, the ABC sitcom she helmed before it was cancelled earlier this year. Hats off to her for even landing her own sitcom, though, which is no mean feat given the competitiveness of the US televisual market. It didn't make it to a whole season but she was definitely the best thing about it - she proved that she's got enough gusto and screen presence to helm her own series which is definitely a worthwhile attribute to have listed on your résumé. It looks like the only way is up for the girl who waited and she hasn't forgotten where she came from, either. Last year she returned to Doctor Who to make a short but sweet cameo appearance in Matt Smith's final episode, The Time of the Doctor, and she's become somewhat of a regular at conventions and fan events, too. Her next project is a Western with John Travolta so she really is living the dream. Let's hope he can get her name right. What do you think of this list?
