10 Doctor Who Characters Who Came Back From The Dead

7. Clara Oswald (Hell Bent)

Clara Oswald might be the only person in existence whose death was rudely interrupted. After dying in Series 9's Face the Raven, Hell Bent saw the Doctor enter her timeline at the exact moment of her demise, allowing him to whisk her away to safety mere milliseconds before she was struck by the deadly raven.

Imagine if you knew that your end was imminent, if you were staring it directly in the face: but then, out of nowhere, Peter Capaldi showed up and pulled you through a magic door. That's pretty much what happened from Clara's point of view.

Anyway, the Doctor's intervention allowed his companion to live again, but with a catch: because her death in Face the Raven is a fixed point in time, Clara has to re-enter her timeline at some point in the future, allowing history to play out properly.

But until then, she's free to do whatever the hell she likes. The last time we saw Clara, she was flying off in her very own TARDIS, determined to make the most of her (temporary) second shot at life by exploring the universe and having grand adventures.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
