10 Doctor Who Characters Who Came Back From The Dead

1. The Master (Repeatedly)

The Master is perfectly named, being the Master of survival. This Time Lord has more lives than a cat. Possibly more than several cats, frequently escaping certain doom with little more than a shrug and a maniacal laugh.

His survival is often unremarked, of course. How does he escape falling into the interior of Gallifrey during The Deadly Assassin, for example? And why is he inexplicably unharmed after apparently being burned alive in Planet of Fire?!

But perhaps worst of all, there’s the hand waving ritual used to revive his dead and burnt-to-ashes corpse in The End of Time. The ritual looks like magic and, although it attempts to give some explanation for his survival, it really only raises more questions than it answers. Let's not even attempt to ask how being disintegrated by the Daleks in the TV movie turned the Master into a body possessing slug!

Still, the Master is the ultimate survivor. More than anyone or anything else in the Whoniverse, fans can count on one thing. Even when the Master dies, he’ll be back one way or another, bringing with him death, destruction and lunacy. It’s just how he - now she - rolls.
