10 Doctor Who Characters Who Don't Deserve The Hate
1. Clara Oswald
Clara Oswald is the most divisive companion of the revival era, and to be perfectly honest, this writer isn't a huge fan.
But does she deserve the insane amount of hate she's got over the years? People saying that she ruined the show, and that she's one of the worst companions ever? Definitely not - there's no way Clara belongs on the same level as an Adric, or a Ryan Sinclair.
Poor Jenna Coleman was fighting an uphill battle from the beginning, entering the show when the majority of the fandom was suffering from post-Pond depression. Like when Matt Smith took over from David Tennant, fans automatically disliked the newbie before they'd even given them a chance.
And to her credit, Clara had one of the most unique companion storylines in the show, and the mystery of her appearing as different characters was really interesting. The resolution wasn't as satisfying as the build-up, granted, but it was a lovely lead-in to the 50th, with Clara being superimposed into those scenes alongside classic Doctors.
Her relationship with the Twelfth Doctor worked even better than her relationship with Eleven. Part of this is because she was no longer the companion to 'Amy's Doctor', but the dynamic of the relationship also changed. She constantly challenged him, and he challenged her in return, and that arc of Clara thinking she was untouchable culminated in a really sad and well-executed death scene in Face the Raven.
And for what it's worth, Clara's arc resulted in one of the greatest Doctor Who episodes ever in Heaven Sent. That alone was worth the character's time!
