10 Doctor Who Couples That Created Unrealistic Expectations About Relationships

1. Amy Pond And Rory Williams

And here they are. The couple who have created the most unrealistic expectations about real life relationships. And they just so happen to be the greatest Doctor Who love story of all time... bar none. Come on. You know it's true. After all, who could ever forget Amy and Rory's noble sacrifice at the end of The Angels Take Manhattan, when they heroically leapt off that New York skyscraper and lived to tell the tale before being zapped back into a transcendental paradox by the Weeping Angels. It all escalated very quickly after that and it still doesn't make 100% sense, but surely's it's time to let bygones be bygones? Oh, all right, then. None of us are over it quite yet. Because, when all is said and done, they loved each other. It was proper love, too. Not that doe-eyed nonsense that haunted the aforementioned Tenth Doctor and Rose. The Ponds had their ups and downs (and then some) but they never forgot where they came from. Finding someone who you're utterly compatible with in every way isn't an unrealistic expectation per se, but it's somewhat of a forlorn fantasy to hope that your other half would vow to stand as your protecter for 2,000 years as you're body is being revived in an enteral prison. He was the one who killed her in the first place, so it's the least he could've done. See. Ups and downs. To cut a very long story short, you'll never quite have a relationship like Amy and Rory. Maybe that's a good thing, though, because there's not many couples who could survive the emotional trauma of having a baby who's kidnapped and raised into a psychopath to kill your best friend who you then find out grew up alongside you in the guise of your childhood best friend. They died, they cried, they lied (and somehow found time to get divorced along the way), but, in the end, Amy and Rory went out in the only way they were ever going to go. Together, or not at all. What did you think of this list? Are there any other Doctor Who couples that have created unrealistic expectations about relationships? Join the conversation in the comments section below.
