10 Doctor Who Episodes NOBODY Was Ready For

Where do we even begin with this one? From its earliest bits of marketing, fans could tell that they were in for a treat, with favourites like Ace, Tegan, and Kate Stewart confirmed to return.

But none of us were truly prepared for the sheer volume of surprises that The Power of the Doctor had in store.

For one thing, this episode was never promoted as a multi-Doctor special, so seeing the return of Doctors One, Five, Six, Seven, and Eight was a joyful surprise for all Who fans. Watching the Fifth and Seventh Doctors have a heartfelt chat with their respective companions was the icing on the cake, gaining closure for things said and done in the past.

There was also the companion support group at the very end of the episode, which brought back characters like Mel Bush, Jo Grant, and Ian Chesterton, much to the surprise (and delight) of classic Who lovers.

However, it was the ending that had fans truly shocked - at least, those who aren't on Twitter all day.

As we said our final goodbyes to the Thirteenth Doctor, plenty of people expected Ncuti Gatwa to appear onscreen, due to him being announced as the next Doctor several months prior. Instead, we got none other than David Tennant, reprising the role onscreen for the first time since 2013.

Alright then, we'll say it... "WHAT?!"
