10 Doctor Who Episodes Where Evil Won

5. The Pandorica Opens

The cliffhanger ending to The Pandorica Opens sees the Daleks, Cybermen, Sontarans, Autons, Sycorax, and the Hoix all get what they want – the Doctor banged up in prison.

And to be fair to them all, this impossible alliance of many Doctor Who villains is brought together by an altruistic desire to stop the Doctor from blowing up the universe.

It's hard not to imagine that there must have been a slight feeling of satisfaction that they'd all finally trapped the Doctor, even in the most emotionless of Cyber-hearts. The only problem is that they don't have long to enjoy their victory before all the stars go out and they're reduced to stone relics in a dying timeline.

That's because the alliance accidentally gave the Silence exactly what they wanted by removing the Doctor from the picture while they blow up the TARDIS. This sets in motion a chain of events that has the Doctor sacrifice his life to reboot the universe, removing him from reality altogether.

So the Silence are the true victors of The Pandorica Opens, setting up elaborate traps within traps for the Doctor in a desperate desire to put an end to the Time Lord before he can reignite the Time War in the skies above Trenzalore.

It just goes to show that even the most evil of villains believes that what they're doing is good.
