10 Doctor Who Facts You Won't Believe Are True

7. The Subwave Network's Alternate Leaders

Operated by former Prime Minister Harriet Jones, the Subwave Network is a crucial part of the Series 4 finale, as it's what allows the Doctor to track down the stolen planet Earth and ultimately save the day.

It's basically a top-secret Zoom call that apparently functions by Harriet mashing the keyboard like a two-year-old playing with an iPad, but in the very first iterations of this plot point, Harriet wasn't involved at all.

Instead, RTD was going to have the Subwave Network operated by a completely different character, with the top candidate being - brace yourselves - Elton Pope, the protagonist of Series 2's Love & Monsters.

Another candidate was Mr. Copper, the old gentleman the Doctor met in the 2007 Christmas special Voyage of the Damned. He obviously didn't make the cut but he was still involved, with Harriet mentioning that the Network was created by the Mr. Copper Foundation.

In the end, Harriet was the best possible choice, as it meant we didn't have to think about anybody possibly defiling a pavement slab.
