10 Doctor Who Facts You Won't Believe Are True

3. Matt Smith Wrote A Doctor Who Fanfic

Actors do strange things to get into character sometimes.

Robert De Niro actually drove cabs before shooting Taxi Driver, Meryl Streep learned two different languages for Sophie's Choice, and, to prepare for Star Wars, Mark Hamill really travelled to outer space and helped overthrow an evil empire!

Before he took over as the Doctor from David Tennant, Matt Smith also went to some odd lengths to get inside the mind of a Time Lord.

In an interview on The One Show in April 2010, Smith said that he turned to Albert Einstein for help on how to play the Eleventh Doctor.

He described Einstein and the Doctor as intelligent but mad, and also said that he wrote several short stories about the pair travelling together to get into character. They explored the universe, built pyramids, and presumably fed each other grapes.

The stories were, in Smith's words, "quite crap", but hey, it's the thought that counts!

In a strange twist of fate, the Eleventh Doctor later crossed paths with Einstein in a minisode called Death is the Only Answer. However, we can confirm that none of Smith's fanfics were used as scripts.
