10 Doctor Who Facts You Won't Believe Are True

2. The Doctor Was Almost Married To The Fairy Godmother

For this entry, we're going way back to where it all began: 1963's An Unearthly Child.

This is where we first meet the Doctor, his granddaughter Susan, and her teachers Ian Chesterton and Barbara Wright. They're all whisked away to the Stone Age, where they must deal with some dim-witted cavemen who are struggling to make fire.

This story launched the greatest TV show of all time, but at one point, those cavemen weren't even the weirdest element.

Writer C.E. Webber suggested a story where the characters were all shrunk down to miniature size, while another idea would've been set at Christmas, revealing that the Doctor was being pursued through time by his estranged wife... The Fairy Godmother.

Yep, you read that right. The Fairy Godmother.

Imagine if this had been the opening serial of Doctor Who? Something so weird might've doomed the show to an early grave, as it's arguably the simplicity of the initial setup that contributed to the show's success.

Still, this is far from the weirdest Doctor Who episode that almost got made...
