10 Doctor Who Guest Stars Who Got Themselves Noticed

7. Tom Hopper (The Eleventh Hour)

Tom Hopper had a brief but important role in Matt Smith’s very first episode, The Eleventh Hour, as Jeff.

As he is formulating a plan to thwart the Atraxi, the Doctor storms into Jeff's room and snatches his laptop before remarking "Blimey, get a girlfriend Jeff" - the first in a very long string of Moffat's browser history jokes. Moments later, Jeff is flung into a video call with the world's leading minds, trying to convince them to follow the Doctor’s plan.

This man goes from having a little me-time to saving the world in a matter of minutes - certainly not the evening he had planned.

Hopper would go on to stamp his name on a number of franchises throughout the years, from his role as Sir Percival on Merlin to Billy Bones in Black Sails, and even Game of Thrones, where he played Samwell Tarly’s doomed brother, Dickon.

Nowadays, he’s most well-known for his role in Netflix’s Umbrella Academy, where he plays the gang’s half-monkey leader, Luther Hargreeves.

He’s yet to have a big silver-screen break, but due to the sheer number of successful series he has appeared in, Hopper is a recognisable face to anyone who has watched five minutes of telly - we sense something big for him just around the corner.
