1. The Tenth Doctor And Rose Tyler

He may have loved before but there's something about the Doctor's relationship with Rose Tyler that makes it the greatest romance in the show. When they first met she was a young girl with a dead end life and he was recovering from a terrible trauma, plagued by survivor's guilt. Rose may have been slightly - nay, completely - selfish and self absorbed at times but her devotion to the Doctor remained constant. It's largely thanks to Rose that the Ninth Doctor became whole again and it was obvious that he began to feel something for her when he competed with Captain Jack to show her he could 'dance'.

It was once he'd regenerated, however, that the romance truly blossomed. The taciturn Ninth Doctor was replaced by a witty and humorous version who was also very easy on the eye (apparently). The two fitted together perfectly and rarely has the Doctor looked so happy. Yes, Sarah Jane and Reinette caused some issues along the way but this was a Doctor that was made better when Rose was around. When separated by a whole parallel dimension, the Doctor burnt up an entire sun just to send her a final message which is surely the most romantic gesture that anyone has ever displayed?

Rose returned and the Doctor's delight was obvious. However, he saw that the human Doctor that wore his face could give Rose the life she truly wanted and put his own feelings and needs aside to give her the happy ending she deserved. The mark of true love? You decide.
