4. The Trial Of A Time Lord
Colin Baker again! What a mixed bag of a legacy his tenure left for Whovians. Yet what rich pickings for the world of musicals. Timelash and Vengeance on Varos were good single narratives. The Trial of a Time Lord, on the other hand, is a veritable multi-pack of scenarios from writers Robert Holmes, Philip Martin, Pip & Jane Baker and Eric Saward. Forcibly drawn to a space-bound courtroom by his own people, the sixth incarnation faced a verbal and physical battle for his very existence, under attack from perhaps his most unique adversary, the Valeyard. On a side note it's worth mentioning Tony Hadley from Spandau Ballet might make a terrific choice for the role! Using the overarching device of the Doctor in the dock, a producer could have a field day mounting the various locations under the roar of the greasepaint. There's the deceptive planet of Ravolox, the caves of Thoros Beta, the starship full of venomous Vervoids and finally the Matrix, the repository of all Time Lord knowledge, which for some reason contained a Victorian pottery museum. Provided Michael Ball wasn't too exhausted from appearing in the other two Baker-derived shows, his phone would be ringing off the hook for a comeback.
