A severe lack of sunlight is something that we can all probably relate to after enduring 2020, but on the plus side, we don't have it quite as bad as the people who fall prey to the Eaters Of Light.

The Twelfth Doctor encounters these creatures in the Series 10 episode of the same name, and while we don't learn bags and bags of details about them, we are told (and shown) the insane damage that their powers are capable of inflicting.

To quote the Doctor, the Eaters Of Light are "light-eating locusts". They're inter-dimensional beings that seek out different worlds, in order to feast on the light contained within. Given the chance, they could devour the sun, and then the stars - plunging the Earth into total darkness.

As well as causing devastation on a mass scale, the Eaters Of Light can also use their powers on individual humans. The end result is similar in effect to if the victim was completely deprived of sunlight for decades, turning them into dried-out sacks of skin - and the episode shows us how gruesome this can look.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
