Seconds after signing on the dotted line however, war was declared and the two were enlisted into Zapp Brannigan’s random war on a planet filled with sentient balls. He even admitted himself that many of his men would die pointlessly, and Bender very nearly did.

Instead of being melted down and made into a statue of himself however, he was fitted with a bomb that could have decimated the entire planet had he said the word ‘ass’. This was far more dangerous than anything that could have happened on the battlefield, and it all happened because Fry and Bender didn’t want to pay full price for a pack of gum that ended up being all bones.
