7. Dean Letting Gadreel Possess Sam
A big part of Dean’s character and personality is his overprotective nature when it comes to Sam. Playing the big brother role a little too well, Dean always makes sure that Sam is safe from any harm no matter what.
Due to this, Dean makes the dumb decision to let an angel called Ezekiel (later to be revealed as Gadreel) take over Sam's body when he was on the brink of death after going through the trials to close the gates of hell. Although Sam had accepted his death, Dean could not and tricked Sam into saying yes to the angel so he could repair Sam from the inside.
The decision ultimately caused a rift between the brothers as Dean betrayed Sam’s trust by lying to him and manipulating him into letting an angel take control of his body. This decision also caused the untimely death of Kevin Tran as Gadreel had orders from Metatron to use Sam's body and get rid of Kevin. Sam was rightly mad at Dean for this blatant violation of not only his trust but his mind and body as well, that fans had to watch for half a season the brothers awkwardly working and living together as Sam stated they weren’t brothers anymore, only workmates.
