10 Dumbest Things In Doctor Who: The Movie
2. The Doctor Is Half-Human?
Doctor Who likes to tell us its main character isn't a Time Lord, but it can never work out what they actually are.
In The Timeless Children, it's revealed to the Thirteenth Doctor that she's a mysterious being who was found chilling near a weird portal - a being with the ability to regenerate an infinite number of times.
Conversely, in the TV Movie, Paul McGann says he's half-human.
In this offhand remark, the Doctor says that he has some human ancestry on his mother's side, but what was meant to be taken as a jokey line has far-reaching consequences across the entire series.
Firstly, it completely contradicts the whole Timeless Child thing. But then again, what doesn't, and to be fair, the makers of the TV Movie didn't know about the Chibnall masterplan at the time.
Secondly, if the Doctor isn't a pure Time Lord, then surely they should have severely weakened abilities? Shouldn't their regeneration cycle run out faster? Or their intelligence be lessened? Or something?
And thirdly, what the hell does this mean for the Metacrisis Doctor? He was part human, and the real Doctor said he was going to die!
This briefest of brief comments undermines so much of the Doctor's mythology that it's no wonder it's never been mentioned again. Let's hope it stays that way.
