10 Dumbest Things In Star Trek: Picard

Et in Arcadia Ergo fleet

Even knowing the reasons behind this moment from Picard's first season finale doesn't help it.

Given that in every other encounter, pretty much in the entirety of Star Trek except for The Original Series, every fleet manoeuvre has comprised several different ship classes.

It's also true that in the case of the Romulans, Klingons and Dominion, their ship classes have been limited to two or three designs. But for the big galactic showdown between the Romulans and Starfleet, as the show could muster, was a single design with colour and engine tweaks.  A ship design that, in itself, would be unapologetically altered by the time we came to the third season for the better. A point by which fans would have experienced the Federation Day and Fed/Borg fleets of seasons two and three. Both of which were multi-ship class and provided all the onscreen scrutiny fans were begging for during Et in Arcadia Ego.

Maybe the Inquiry Class is a Federation Liberty ship, easily mass-produced, but the dumb thing here might have been actually revealing publicly that the show didn't have time to properly finish this spectacular encounter. Instead, it chose a quick fix that dulled the moment and left fans somewhat bewildered. Maybe a better onscreen explanation would have papered over the cracks and time constraints. Eaglemoss took full advantage, though, releasing all four tweaked variants as part of their Starships line.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
