10 Dumbest Things In Star Trek: Picard

6. The Bar is Ten Forward

Frankly, this makes absolutely no sense, but provides all the Trek sizzles on screen.

What viewers are intended to believe is that Guinan ran a bar called Ten Forward in the 2020s and then miraculously runs a bar on the USS Enterprise-D with the same name. Now, if memory serves (no Discovery reference intended), the reason for the Enterprise-D's lounge having that name is because it is on Deck 10, forward. Naming the bar in Picard this - and a set that would be reused for season three - seems like a good idea, but in the big picture, there is no iota of logic for its occurrence.

It is a lovely bit of fan service and immediately lets viewers know what they are in for, but in terms of how and why it doesn't lie. Calling it Guinan's would have made more sense and perhaps not been as distracting.  Forward Avenues do exist, and maybe Guinan had some kind of El-Aurian premonition that drove her to that specific location; however, it all seems just a little too convenient and convoluted. In this case, though, it's a case of potential over-fan service.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
