8. Zooey Deschanel Elena, Veronica's Closet
Before becoming an indie hipster queen, Zooey Deschanel's very first acting role was in Veronica's Closet. Deschanel plays the shy and retiring sister of an office assistant who really wants to be a model. Cue a change from frumpy clothes and big glasses to a glamorous frock and perfect hair. Her acting in itself isn't all that bad, but she can only do so much with what she's given. After her on-screen elder sister tries to hammer home the fact that she's an intelligent young woman with a lot of potential to do whatever she wants, her attempts to show the fashion industry for what it is fail 'hilariously', with other characters reminding her that she is the reason they're working there in the first place. If the convoluted gag setup isn't enough to tickle your funny bone then the realisation that she's perfect model material certainly must be, with lines like "I want to be a model because I'm really good at standing really still", and "It'd be fun to visit exciting cities like Paris and Europe". Definitely not something you'd expect of the New Girl star today.
