10 Embarrassingly Shoddy Doctor Who Monsters

3. The Dinosaurs in 'Invasion of the Dinosaurs'

Regardless of how good or bad the Dinosaurs in this story were, they would never look as good as anything produced since then such as Jurassic Park obviously and of course Doctor Who itself. This is another famously poor effect that they couldn't even afford to change for the DVD. The Dinosaurs followed in the wake of the pretty successful Drashigs the previous year but oh my, did the Dinosaurs disappoint. Malcolm Hulke and Terrance Dicks were given full assurance that whatever they wrote, the effects team could deliver, and so they went ahead an wrote what is actually a pretty good script, only for the titular Dinosaurs to be absolutely awful. They may as well have had someone go to a toy shop and bought a load of stuffed dinosaurs. The Tyrannosaurus Rex isn€™t like any Tyrannosaurus I€™ve ever seen. The other dinosaurs can€™t even move, apart from a pterodactyl that appears to be a distant relative of Kermit the Frog that Jon Pertwee has to fight it off with a mop. The Dinosaurs let down what is actually a pretty good story. 'Dinosaurs on a Spaceship' it a glimpse into what could have been. Or you can always read the novelisation.
