10 Episodes That Prove 30 Rock Is The Greatest Sitcom Ever Made

5. Dealbreakers Talk Show #0001 (Season 4, Episode 7)

Whose idea was it to give Liz her own talk show? It was destined to be a failure, really, wasn't it? In-universe, it shouldn't have been. Lemon's (or should it be Lesbian Sour Fruit?) book is a bestseller and naturally a talk show should surely be a hit as well? However, once you get Jack and the rest of the TGS crew involved, you just know it's all going to end badly. It's hilarious watching Liz's makeover slowly take over and ruin what she had to work with in the first place. That hair, for one, and then what Jack describes as her "dead shark eyes". It's all just too much to handle. The episode also shows of Tina Fey's amazing physical comedy skills, especially with all the poses she does for the promos. The funniest moment, however, is when the characters step in front of the HD cameras. Liz looks like a demon of some sort, Pete looks like a 90 year-old man, Kenneth looks like a Muppet and, of course, Jack looks like a 21 year-old (in a sort-of cameo for young Alec Baldwin from The Hunt for Red October). The B-Plot has Frank taking over from Liz whilst she's off shooting her pilot, and there's also some genuinely funny moments here, with plenty of development for his character as well. For the first time we kind of understand why Liz is the way she is, as we see Frank slowly morph into a version of her due to spending so much time working. It's a nice and subtle touch in 30 Rock's surreal and wacky world. Joke Of The Episode: Liz: "I'm not making this decision based on who's funnier or whom I like best, so Toofer, you're in charge." Toofer: "Thank you. In the words of Tennyson..." Liz: "Nope, sorry, you're not in charge."
