10 Episodes That Made You Quit Your Favourite TV Shows

6. Night Finds You (2.2) - True Detective

Sitting down to the second season of True Detective, you probably had a strange feeling that somebody had kidnapped writer Nic Pizzolatto, dressed themselves up in a Nic Pizzolatto costume, and subsequently tried to write an entire show in his idiosyncratic style.

The first episode of season two, The Western Book of the Dead, was deemed a travesty by most fans: confusing, depressing and filled with uninteresting characters. But you likely took this in your stride and told yourself: "It'll get better. It has to get better in the next episode, doesn't it?" Unfortunately, things just got a whole lot worse from there on in.

Night Finds You, then, the second episode of True Detective's second season, was presumably the point at which most people decided not to go any further. Here, things became even more confusing, as Vince Vaughn's Frank Semyon realised he had been cheated. It was another plodding installment, and a valid reason to give up on the show.

And who could forget that godawful conversation about e-cigarettes shared between Colin Farrell and Rachel McAdams? "You pull off that e-cig," he tells her. What the f*ck?
