10 Exact Moments We Knew TV Characters Were Doomed To Die

8. Stringer Tells Avon He Killed D'Angelo - The Wire

The Walking Dead
HBO

As ruthlessly intelligent and ambitious as Stringer Bell (Idris Bell) was shown to be throughout his run on The Wire, he really has only himself to blame for his death.

In season three's "Moral Midgetry," Stringer makes the colossal mistake of telling his drug kingpin boss Avon Barksdale (Wood Harris) that he was the one who ordered the murder of his nephew D'Angelo (Lawrence Gilliard Jr.).

The already-strained relationship between Stringer and Avon is irreparably damaged from this point, and before Stringer can complete his plot to send Avon back to prison, Avon gets caught short a few episodes later ("Middle Ground"), when he's shot dead by Omar (Michael K. Williams) and Brother Mouzone ( Michael Potts) by order of Avon.

Despite Stringer being arguably the smartest character in the series, his Machiavellian scheming ultimately got the better of him, and we knew his number was up from the moment he confessed to taking D'Angelo off the chessboard.
