10 Excellent Cartoon Reboots That Surprised Fans

6. He-Man (2002)

Despite being both a show specifically created to sell toys under Mattel (though, to be fair to the reboot, this was exactly what the original show was meant to do as well), and being an American-Canadian production that wasn't nearly as popular as other cartoon reboots at the time, the He-Man series from 2002 was an excellent reboot, gorgeously animated and presented with an intriguing story-line that deserved more attention than it ultimately got.

Like the original, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe followed Prince Adam's adventures in Eternia, with an overarching plot that kept viewers interested, and more nuanced characters than were presented in the original series, with Adam starting out as a spoiled prince who grew into his responsibility to serve and protect his people. The animation was great, the action was exciting, and the series was undeniably epic in its storytelling and drama, set in a high fantasy and sci-fi fused world.

The use of traditional animation and painted backgrounds makes it a reboot for a different era in this day and age, but it's still worth looking back on with the same fondness as the original - but undeniably having aged much better.
