Talking of returning companions, it's always a staple of Doctor Who that past friends can come back at any time to say hello and join in on adventures.

With Russell's return we've got a strong back catalogue of amazing characters who are overdue a return for another story or two. His characters like Martha Jones, Lady Christina De Souza, Donna Noble and loads more deserve another adventure.

There are already rumours abound that Catherine Tate could be returning as fan-favourite Donna. When asked about the rumours Catherine joked and said "she probably started a lot of them." She went on to say that nobody has been in touch but "I'm on the same number, I'd just like to say, so If you've got the money I've got the time."

A lot of celebrities are very good at avoiding these questions though. Just look at Andrew Garfield denying his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home for over a year.

Let's also not forget Russell was due to bring back classic companion, Ace, into The Sarah Jane Adventures but Lis Sladen's passing sadly prevented that episode from being made. He confirmed Tegan and Nyssa were married in Farewell Sarah Jane Smith, and he's clearly got a lot of ideas for classic characters.
