4. Hugh Grant As The 14th Doctor

The recent rumour that Hugh Grant would play the 14th Doctor has allegedly been debunked when the actor claimed it was all just idle rumours. It would be thrilling though, to see a huge name take on the role. It would get a lot of media attention and help bring more new audiences to the show... but it would also be a potential mistake.

We have already seen Hugh Grant as the Doctor. Fair enough, it was in the 1999 Colic Relief special, written by Steven Moffat. In the sketch, multiple actors including Rowan Atkinson, Hugh Grant, Richard E Grant, Jim Broadbent and Joanna Lumley took on the role. While we've seen actors from the past take on the role of the Doctor, most famously Colin Baker and Peter Capaldi, it might not work here.

It seems like an odd rumour that came out of nowhere, and while it's exciting to have such a big name seriously considered, lots of fans are excited for a more diverse Doctor and would love to see a more lesser known person take the role.

It might still work if Hugh Grant were to be a big part of a spin-off show, whether it explored a forgotten Doctor or different characters entirely, and it would definitely be great to have a show in the Whoniverse with a well known actor attached.
