10 Failed Comic Book TV Projects That Would Be Awesome Now
8. Blade: The Series (2006)
The success of the Blade franchise was always a bit bizarre. Of all the properties owned by Marvel, who would have thought that the story of a vampire hunter would reach the big screen before fan favourites like Spider-Man and the X-Men? As if that wasn't surprising enough, the real shock came when Blade actually became a huge hit, spawning two relatively successful sequels and a... not so successful TV show.
Spike TV's first scripted show starred the rapper Sticky Fingaz as Blade, but despite a strong debut, people quickly switched off once the downgrade in quality became apparent. Critics and audiences alike failed to tune in to see this low budget version of the vampire hunter in action, so the series bit the dust after only thirteen episodes.
A key issue for the shows original run was budgetary concerns, but if Blade: The Series could be resurrected, then this would no longer be a concern, especially if Marvel chose to develop a show grounded in the Netflix corner of the MCU. A Blade program in the vein of Daredevil would be a far better fit for the gritty source material and Wesley Snipes recently revealed that he's been in talks with Marvel to reprise the role.
