10 False Doctor Who Facts You Probably Believe
2. The Daleks Were The Show's First Villains
Probably one of the most believed false fact of Doctor Who, I'm here to tell you that the Daleks aren't actually the first villains of the series.
When Doctor Who kicked off on 23rd November 1963 with An Unearthly Child, there wasn't a villain in sight as the TARDIS takes off on its first adventure, until the final moments when a shadow appears. The following week the villain of the serial is revealed, and no it isn't a Dalek.
The first Doctor Who villain is actually caveman Kal. The Daleks do not turn up in the series until its fifth episode, where at the start of the second serial they ominously reveal themselves and threaten Barbara.
An Unearthly Child, Doctor Who's first serial, is four episodes long, starting with one based in London, before spending the follow three weeks in caves of the distant past. It is often overlooked that before the Doctor's trip to Skaro, the TARDIS landed in 100,000 BC, during the search for fire.
