10 Fastest Ships In Battlestar Galactica
4. The Viper Mark VII
Several years after the first Cylon-Human war, the twelve colonies focused their efforts on upgrading their outdated navy into something much more modern.
However, the Cylons used the colonies' own push for extreme advancements against them, implanting a highly effective computer virus into the systems of almost every single newly built ship in the colonies armada.
The Cylon computer virus, allowed the Cylons to basically "flip a switch" and turn off any ship installed with the new programs. This includes the Viper Mark 7 and almost every single Battlestar.
This included the super-advanced Viper Mark 7. This "modern" version of the colonies' basic starfighter looks almost nothing like the original Viper from the 1970s, and instead draws inspiration from more modern fighters in our world, and as such is significantly faster than the practically ancient Viper Mark 2.
The only time we actually get to see a Mark 7 in action properly against the Cylons is in the show's miniseries when Lee Adama uses his fighter to defend Colonial One before they reunite with the Galactica.
The ship certainly seemed much faster and more agile than the older Viper models, so it's a real shame they don't get to use these more advanced models in combat. Undoubtedly humanity would have stood a better chance against the Cylon armadas if they only had a few more of these modern fighters.
