There's no denying that RIPD was a pretty awful film and few really liked it, but the premise (based on the comic book Rest In Peace Department by Peter M. Lenkov) has huge potential especially on the small screen. It features two Boston Police Department detectives who are post-humously recruited to patrol the afterlife and capture "deados" (spirits that failed to cross over and instead stay on Earth as monsters). It's a little bit Ghostbusters and a little bit Men In Black and as a TV show (Agents of SHIELD meets Torchwood) it could definitely work. To improve this turkey of a film it needs a better story, less dodgy 90's videogame CGI and to embrace the camp factor. Each week this could fight a different sort of deado, in a similar vein to Reaper, and the menace they cause in the afterlife. The poorer CGI might also be forgivable on TV where expectations are far lower. Ryan Reynold's film career needs to really do a Matthew McConaughey soon or he will be nothing more than that guy who played Deadpool, a return to TV could do his career some good. The only trouble is that Reynold's bad acting was one of the issues withe movie, and we're thinking a heartthrob with a little more talent like Prometheus' Logan Marshall Green, Josh Holloway or Michael Ealy might fit the bill better. Jeff Bridges on the other hand is far too cool to be on a TV show so we're seeing his replacement being someone like Gary Sinise or Lost's Terry O Quinn.
