10 Forgotten Horror TV Shows You MUST Watch

1. Penny Dreadful

Penny Dreadful
Sky Atlantic

Created by writer John Logan and produced by director Sam Mendes, Penny Dreadful aired on Showtime and Sky from May 2014 to June 2016 and starred the likes of Timothy Dalton, Eva Green, Reeve Carney and Josh Hartnett. The show was inspired by the 19th century British serials of the same name and featured characters from established horror titles such as Dracula, Frankenstein and the Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde.

Admittedly, this series is a bit more popular than other entries on this list but has seem to have fallen off the conversation in recent years and is due for a reappraisal. Each season follows plots focused on the above mentioned characters, with particular focus on Ethan Chandler (Josh Hartnett), Dorian Grey (Reeve Carney), Malcolm Murray (Timothy Dalton) and Vanessa Ives (Eva Green).

The show's strong suits are its performances (Rory Kinnear is a standout as The Creature as is an ever-reliable Green), its production design that evokes Victorian-era London effectively and a unique, almost messy-but-still compelling approach to introducing and balancing iconic characters from the world of literary horror.
