7. The Office - Classy Christmas
The Office always did Christmas in style; Dwight Christmas is probably the best post-Michael Scott episode, for example. But even in such esteemed company, Classy Christmas comes out on top.
Amy Ryan’s Holly was such a fantastic character, bringing a weirdness that played so well against Steve Carrell’s performance. In this holiday episode, he finds out she’s returning to Scranton and ends the Christmas party so they can plan a classier one for her. The scene where he fights with the party planning committee to throw out the trays of party food is particular cringe comedy gold.
However, while a lot of The Office tends to just be feel-good comedy, this brings the emotions too. Michael is distraught to learn Holly is in a long distance relationship with new boyfriend AJ, especially when Holly broke up with him specifically because she didn’t want that. Michael having to leave and breaking down in Pam’s arms is heartwrenching for a character we all just want the best for.
The various B-plots do a great job of maintaining the laughs though as the A brings heart. We see Darryl with his kid and Dwight ambushing Jim again and again with snowballs.
