10 Funniest Episodes Of It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

5. Sweet Dee's Dating A Retarded Person (Season 3 - Episode 9)

Occasionally, the secondary plot of a sitcom's episode can overshadow its main storyline. This is very much the case in 'Sweet Dee's Dating A Retarded Person'. Dee's main storyline is pretty funny, if a little basic, but is completely put to shame by the guys' attempts to start a band. Several moments of the episode have entered Sunny lore, such Charlie's disturbing 'Nightman' song, an ode to a metaphorical home invader who "fills up" the narrator and "pins him down with his strong arms". Of course, Charlie sees nothing questionable about his lyrics, explaining that they're about being filled with the spirt of darkness, becoming a "passionate, passionate Nightman". The rest of the gang are dubious. Later, with Charlie and Dennis outed from their respective bands, the pair compose a new song, 'Dayman'. Whereas 'Nightman' is gallows humour at its finest (something Sunny generally does very well), 'Dayman' is borderline-nonsensical and incredibly silly. It has quickly become the rallying cry for fans of the show, and with lines such as "you're a master of karate and friendship, for everyone!" who could resist falling in love with it.
