10 Funniest Halloween TV Episodes
1. The Simpsons - Treehouse Of Horror V
Were it not for sticking to one episode per series, several other Treehouse Of Horrors might have made the cut here. Treehouse IV would be a dead cert (both made the top 25 Simpsons episodes ever), while Treehouses III and VI deserve a look in as well. Even Treehouse XIX has a great segment (It's The Grand Pumpkin, Milhouse), but is let down by the other two.
In Treehouse V though, they all bring their a-game. Homer time travelling via a faulty toaster and the teachers trying to eat the kids are both great, but Treehouse V tops the list off the back of one thing, and one thing only: The Shinning.
Easily the best Simpsons Halloween segment the show has ever done, it makes a strong case for being the greatest parody ever on television - horror movie or no.
It's such a loving spoof, incorporating key elements of The Shining flawlessly while keeping The Simpsons' manic humour and letting the story flow. No jokes are forced or wedged in there to hit The Shining. It all just fits together naturally.
It's hilarious, exciting, brilliantly animated and pays close attention to details. Not to be missed this spooky season.
