10 Funniest Moments From Ricky Gervais & Stephen Merchant Comedies

3. The Blind Date (The Office Christmas Special)

Brent1

Back to the mundane and glum reality of David Brent and his faux-celebrity lifestyle as he applies for a real blind date, turning up to a pub after having spoken to the future Mrs. Brent on the phone. Again as with all brilliant comedy moments, timing is key, and it's only seconds after Brent is being optimistic about the meet whilst telling the audience he's on the lookout for a woman in a white scarf, that the pictured woman comes bumbling in. Gervais' quick look to her and back to the camera before exclaiming "oh for f**k sake" is quintessential blind-date-reaction parlance, as again the use of one continuous camera shot hammers home the reality of the situation. In the show we cut away to other events going on, before returning to the 'action' as Brent and date Susan are barely exchanging pleasantries. The date ends with Susan hopeful for more as Brent's narcissistic tendencies get the better of him and he all but fobs off the well-meaning woman. As in relation to The Best Friend point, there's no real harm done by these supplementary characters, but as with Milman and Brent, they play the manifestations of what we've always wanted to say or do in these situations superbly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qk4d8lfTxk
