10 Futurama Episodes Probably Made Out Of Spite
5. Attack Of The Killer App (S6E3)
A blatant rip-off of all things in the world of technology, this episode pokes fun at the rise of Apple and applications such as Twitter. It highlights how some people can become completely glued to their devices and mobile apps.
The knock-off Twitter app starts a competition between Fry and Bender in which they attempt to beat each other at who can get the most fans. While this is happening, Mom is scheming a plot to control consumers. By using her EyePhone invention, she will be able to take over and infect the population's brains. A bit dramatic but pretty accurate, right?
The popularity contest between Fry ad Bender mocks how unhealthily obsessed some people are when it comes to being the best of the best. The episode is also very well known for the tasteless references to Susan Boyle, which received quite a bit of flack in the media.
Timed exceptionally well, the episode was released in 2010, just a week after Apple launched the iPhone 4. It clearly didn't do much harm to the Apple brand, but Futurama said what needed to be said.
