There wasn't a Thrones fan alive that didn't learn about the now-infamous Volonqar theory.

Given to Cersei when she was a child, the prophecy revealed how she would meet her end. "And when your tears have drowned you, the Valonqar shall wrap his hands about your pale white throat and choke the life from you."

Valonqar roughly translates to "little brother" from High Valyrian which could refer to Tyrion or Jamie as Cersei is the older twin.

The prophecy from the witch, Maggy, was conveniently absent from the show during the flashback scene where it originally occurred. Despite not being spoken aloud, many fans still held this line from the books as gospel due to it justifying Cersei's paranoid behaviour towards Tyrion.

The theory also tied in nicely with Jaime's ongoing redemption tale. The prominent belief being that Jaime would have to kill Cersei to protect the people just as he had done to the Mad King.

However, Jaime's 8 seasons of growth were tossed aside and the two were crushed by falling debris. What should have been a highlight of the penultimate episode felt rushed and left much to be desired.
