10 Game Of Thrones Scenes WAY More Brutal In The Books

8. Jojen Reed's 'Death'

The Red Wedding Game Of Thrones
HBO

Both in the books and the show, Jojen Reed is presented as a mysterious Northman with Greenseer abilities. In the show he helps Bran on his journey to meet the Three-Eyed Raven, before the group are attacked by the undead and he is killed.

It was a pretty grim way to go, but his book counterpart comes to a far more sinister fate.

In the books Jojen survives long enough to make it to the Three-Eyed Raven's cave, but soon after becomes despondent. Jojen repeats that his task is done, and that he has foreseen the day and manner of his death. As his health slowly deteriorates, he begins wondering aimlessly in the tunnels and cave systems before eventually disappearing.

Not long after, Bran is offered a strange red paste by the Children of the Forrest. He is told it will help him control his visions. At first Bran is reluctant, but eventually succumbs, finding the paste sour to the taste and noting it looks like blood. It is heavily implied that Bran was indeed eating Jojen - a Greenseer - to help channel his own abilities.
