10 Game Of Thrones Scenes WAY More Brutal In The Books
9. The Death Of Yoren
It would have been far too easy for Arya to make her escape north aided by the gruff but loyal Night's Watchman, Yoren. Not long into season two, Yoren and his recruits for the Wall were waylaid by a group of Lannister soldiers. Although the Brother bravely resisted, he was shot by arrows and skewed by a number of spears.
Things play out slightly differently in the books, with Yoren suffering a much worse end. On their journey north, Yoren's company takes refuge in an abandoned holdfast, but sometime in the night they are assaulted by Lannisters. Yoren mans the walls and beats off waves of the enemy, before the fortress is overrun. Arya watches as men and boys are butchered all around her; she sees Yoren fighting but eventually is forced to flee and hide.
In the morning she insist that Gendry helps her find Yoren so they can bury him. They find the body of a Black Brother surrounded by dead Lannisters. The only way they can identity the man as Yoren is by his black clothes, due to his head being split apart by an axe.
