10 Game Of Thrones Heroes You Didn't Realise Were Villains

6. Mance Rayder

Sticking with the frozen North, we have the King Beyond The Wall, Mance Rayder himself. He may have been absent from the show since his debut early in season three but that is sure to change as the Wildlings march ever closer to the Wall. Hell, you might ask if he is a hero at all. After all, isn't he marching his wildlings south to crush the Night€™s Watch and invade Westeros? We haven't seen much of him so far so we have to go on his motivations and in that he is very much a hero. Winter is coming and the White Walkers threaten to destroy every living thing. The Wildlings are the first people in their path. By rounding up whole villages and leading his 'people' south, Mance Rayder is given them a fighting chance. On the other side, we have his methods and that is where he balances heroism with villainy. He might be saving his people but he has no qualms about letting his warriors butcher northern villages. Not to mention allying with unsavoury types like the cannibalistic Thenns. Simply put, there is getting done what needs to be done and there is working with evil to achieve your goals. As noble as some intentions might be, he can never truly break free from being the villain he has become.
