And here it is. The most heartbreaking quote in Doctor Who history, and it just so happens to have been written by one of the most celebrated and award winning writers working in Britain today, Richard Curtis. Coincidence? Unlikely! Nobody will ever be able to forget the Eleventh Doctor and Amy Pond's uplifting encounter with Vincent van Gogh in Series 5's Vincent and the Doctor and, while the episode in question ended with the real life suicide of history's most famous artist, the Doctor affirmed that the troubled painter's life wasn't defined by the terrors that had haunted him as a result of his ongoing battle with mental illness. As our beloved Time Lord rightly pointed out, life is a pile of good and bad things and the bad things don't make the good unimportant. Van Gogh has left a lasting legacy on the world through his celebrated work and it is for that reason he will be eternally remembered. Amen to that. What did you think of this list?
