10 Gore Anime That Will Give You Nightmares

Everyone knows that prison is a tough place, as it's designed to be a form of rehabilitation, but populating a claustrophobic setting with dangerous people can often lead to a tonne of violence. While the real world sees this happen to a moderate extent, Deadman Wonderland truly perverts the idea, by turning the concept of incarceration into an even more grotesque, bloody, disgusting mess.

The narrative follows Ganta, a young boy who is falsely accused of killing his entire class and is shipped to Deadman Wonderland. This prison presents itself to the public as an amusement part, and forces the inmates to partake in cruel games that test their survival skills and lead to a plethora of bloody deaths.

What makes everything worse is how joyful the spectators to this onslaught are, as the horrendous gore seems only to excite them more. It subverts the idea of brutal criminals and turns it on its head, showing how outsiders can distort and inflict their barbarity onto those deemed unworthy.

Alongside this powerful message is an overwhelming amount of blood and guts, as the deaths these poor characters suffer are horrifying. Characters even use their blood as a weapon, and if that's not enough of a symbol of the show's relationship with the red stuff, then what is?
