10 Great Characters Game Of Thrones Ruined

6. Jaime Lannister

Game of Thrones Euron Greyjoy
HBO

Although Jaime's story started getting bogged down after his nonsensical rescue mission to Dorne, his character arc remained one of the most engaging. This was the guy that all but started the trouble between Stark and Lannister. He pushed a helpless child from a window, crippled him and showed next to no remorse for his actions... yeah, we all agreed early on, he was a piece of s**t. Somehow, however, he turned into one of the most empathetic characters of the whole show.

Say what you like about the writers, they did a fantastic job when it came to making audiences do a complete turn around with Jaime. His narcissism, ego and ambivalence towards everything was intrinsically wrapped up with his love and devotion to Cersei. With their separation - and his humbling after losing his hand - Jaime began to see the world in a different light, and as an audience, we even sympathised with him, despite his previous actions. I'll say it again, GREAT writing.

So what happened? Well, put simply, the writers ran out of steam. Anything would have been better than his death under the rumble of King's Landing. Even killing him off at the Battle of Winterfell would have been more impactful, it might have actually given that episode some emotional weight.
