6. Sir Patrick Stewart

Defeating the Borg and assisting in the Klingon Rite of Ascension are all in day's work for Captain (now Admiral) Jean-Luc Picard. But away from the red alerts and Riker trombone recitals Patrick Stewart is an ardent advocate of the American Socety for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).

Stewart has been the face of the National Dog-Fighting Awareness Day in both 2017 and 2018 and continues to advocate for the pit bull breed actively via his social media channels and on TV. In 2021 he was presented with the Pit Bull Advocate and Protector Award, reflecting his ongoing commitment to raise awareness around their protection and change public perception.

Of course, Trek fans will know that his love of the dogs also crossed over back into the sci-fi franchise with Picard having his own Pit Bull, Number One, at his side at Chateau Picard.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
