10 Great Contributions To Humanity By Star Trek Actors

7. Leonard Nimoy

Away from the limelight as Mr Spock right from the opening seconds of original Star Trek pilot, The Cage, Leonard Nimoy wasn't just singing about hobbits.

Actually, during his time on the three seasons of Star Trek he advocated for equal pay for Nichelle Nichols seeing her contribution to the show just as impactful - if not more - as anyone else in the co-starring cast.

Aside from numerous writing and directing credits, Nimoy was a prolific photographer and would win several awards for his work.

However, his lasting contribution may still come back to the role of Spock. Originally just a job for three years, Nimoy would continue to engage with fans for decades after, returning for the animated series, the movies, and ultimately as the bridge between the Prime and Kelvin universes in 2009's reboot.

His role as the logical scientist has inspired generations of Star Trek fans to pursue careers in that area. In 2010 the Space Foundation gave him the Douglas S Morrow Public Outreach Award for his creation of such a positive role model to millions of viewers around the world and for inspiring interest in space itself.

A Star Trek fan from birth, I love to dive into every aspect of the franchise in front and behind the screen. There's something here that's kept me interested for the best part of four decades! Now I'm getting back into writing and using Star Trek as my first line of literary attack. If I'm not here on WhatCulture then you're more than welcome to come and take a look at my blog, Some Kind of Star Trek at http://SKoST.co.uk or maybe follow me on Twitter as @TheWarpCore. Sometimes I force myself not to talk about Star Trek.
