10 Great DC Comics Characters The Arrowverse Has Totally Wasted

7. James Olsen

When Supergirl began it got a lot of attention for rebooting the classic comic book character of Jimmy Olsen, he of the dorky bow ties, red hair and freckles, into James Olsen - a suave African-American man and Kara's (original) love interest.

It's an extreme makeover for the character, to be sure, but audiences could have got behind it if the show actually knew what they wanted to do with their version of Mr Olsen.

In the first season, James suffered from being part of a protracted and cliched love triangle, but at least he actually had a part to play. In season two, James was pushed aside as Kara moved onto Mon-El which meant he struggled to find a new role. At first, he was positioned as Cat Grant's replacement as head of CatCo and then he inexplicably became a Batman-esque vigilante called Guardian.

These extreme character u-turns have made it had to like James, which is a shame as Mechad Brooks has proven in the odd James-centric episode that he is a very likeable performer. As it is, there is no place for him on the show anymore so it looks like Jimmy should just return to Metropolis next season.
